5. 2000 Paralympic Spanish Basketball Team
Date: 18 October 2000
Cheating at the Paralympics is a disgraceful thing to do, there can’t be seen as any good in doing so. Still, sadly it happens quite often than we expected but, none of them were as shocking as the 2000 Paralympic Spanish basketball team scandal.
The Spanish team had won the gold medal in the basketball tournament, and for a while, it was considered as an honest victory.
Yet a Spanish journalist revealed to the managers of the tournament that most of the players on the Spanish team had not been checked for any mental disability.
In fact, after further investigation, it was revealed that 10 out of the 12 players were in fact not mentally disabled and Spain just wanted to win a gold medal in the 2000’s Paralympics.
Spain was stripped of the gold medal they won at Sydney 2000 after it emerged players had pretended to be intellectually disabled when they were not.
The scandal emerged when team member Carlos Ribagorda claimed he and other players were not disabled. It is such a shame that even the Olympics are not safe from any cheating scandals.

4. Nelson Piquet Jr. Crash
Date: 28 September 2008
Nelson Jr.’s Car Crash also known as “Crashgate”, didn’t become a big issue until some time passed after this incident happened.
In a race in 2008, Piquet had somewhat of a large crash with an opponent. It didn’t seem like such a big deal.
However, as time passed and Nelson was pulled out of his team (Renault F1), the allegations surfaced that the crash was done on purpose. The sole purpose was to get Fernando Alonso a victory in the race.
Nelson came out and spoke to the FIA and claimed that he had been asked by his coach to stage the crash.
The case was intense for a while, with lots of charges from the team against Nelson and vice versa. Since then, it has cooled down and now he is a certified NASCAR racer.

3. Reggie Bush Money Scandal
Date: September 2005-06
Reginald Alfred Bush Jr. is an American former football player who now serves as an on-air college football analyst for Fox Sports.
He played college football at USC, where he earned the All-American honors twice and won the Heisman Trophy as the most outstanding player in the nation. Still, it was not all that he got in his hands.
He won the Heisman trophy in 2005 and started on USC’s national championship team in 2004. However, there was substantial proof that Bush and his family accepted over $100,000 of improper benefits while still playing at USC.
In 2010, the NCAA concluded an investigation that revealed Bush and his family had received improper benefits while he was a student-athlete at USC. Bush announced that he would forfeit his title as a Heisman winner.
USC’s championship trophy and all the wins were taken away by the NCAA for the 2004-2005 season.

2. FIFA suspended the AIFF
Date: 16 August 2022
FIFA had suspended the AIFF on August 15 for “undue influence from third parties” and had said the U-17 Women’s World Cup “cannot currently be held in India as planned.”
Federation International Football Association (FIFA) banned the All India Football Federation AIFF on August 16 for ‘third-party’ intervention.
In December 2020, the erstwhile AIFF president – Praful Patel – completed his twelve-year tenure in the organization, the maximum term permitted to a National Sports Federation (NSF) chairman by the country’s Sports Code.
The next president was supposed to be decided by election. Still, only a month before the proposed date, the organization moved to court with an application seeking clarity on certain statutes in the constitution of AIFF. Subsequently, the election was put on hold.
After a year and a half of inactivity, the apex court intervened on 18 May of this year to strip Patel and his executive committee of their administrative responsibilities, appointing a three-member CoA to overlook the football activities.
It was comprised of the former judge AR Dave, former Chief Election Commissioner Dr. SY Quraishi, and former Indian men’s football team skipper, Bhaskar Ganguly.
The primary objective of the CoA was to assist the court in facilitating the adoption of a new constitution for AIFF.
