How Shubman Gill got a chance for Team India
In February 2017, he became part of India’s U-19 cricket team where he played a key role in winning the team’s series against England U-19, and in December 2017, he was named the vice-captain of India’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018.
In that tournament also he showed brilliant performance and was also named the player of the tournament.
Following India’s matches in the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Gill as the rising star of the squad.

Gill made his Test debut for India on 26 December 2020, against Australia, and on 22nd August 2022, Gill scored his first One Day International (ODI) century for Team India. On 16 December 2022, against Bangladesh, Gill scored his first century in his Test career and was dismissed for 110 runs.
Shubman Gill made his Twenty20 International debut on 3 January 2023, against Sri Lanka. He scored seven runs from five balls. On 18 January 2023, against New Zealand, Gill scored a double-century. He became 5th Indian batsman to hit a double century in ODI, and he is currently the youngest batsman in men’s cricket to score a double century in ODI.

Shubman created a record by scoring 330 runs in five matches in his debut series. He scored more than 200 runs in the Under16 Punjab state-level match and scored 351 when he played in the District level Under16 Punjab cricket tournament. Gill has the world record for opening partnership of 587 runs.
He served as the vice-captain of the Indian Under-19 cricket team in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and received the prestigious Player of the Tournament award. Additionally, he holds the distinction of being the youngest cricketer to ever score a double century in One Day International cricket.
