Is Cricket Really that Popular Sport than Football?

Well, I’m late as always because the T20 World Cup has ended and the Premier League will be starting on 17 August. But anyway, let’s see, Is Cricket Really that Popular Sport than Football?

I try to avoid writing things like comparing sports but if we have to analyze some things and get to the roots and see if fans around the globe really are a fan of.

Well we are going to compare things based on a few parameters and statistics to show that I have done some research and not just talking without a backbone.

1. Played around the Globe

2. Audience

3. Tournaments

Brief History of Both Sports

Football

Games involving kicking a ball have been played in various cultures for centuries. The modern version of football began to take shape in England in the mid-19th century.

The Football Association (FA) was founded in 1863 in England, standardizing the rules of the game. The first official football competition, the FA Cup, was established in 1871.

The sport spread rapidly through British influence, particularly in Europe and South America. By the early 20th century, it had become a global phenomenon.

Cricket

Cricket’s origins can be traced back to the 16th century in England. It became well-organized in the 18th century with the establishment of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1787.

Cricket spread across the British Empire, taking root in countries like India, Australia, South Africa, and the West Indies.

The first international cricket match was played between the United States and Canada in 1844. The Ashes series between England and Australia began in 1882, T20s, and more.

Played Around the Globe

Football

Football is played professionally on every continent, with grassroots participation in virtually every country. Its simple requirements—a ball and space—make it accessible and popular worldwide.

Cricket

Not as universally played by all countries as football, it has a strong presence in its core regions and is expanding into new markets with initiatives to grow the game in non-traditional cricket countries. (Major League Cricket, SA20, etc).

Is Cricket Really that Popular Sport than Football

There are two down points of cricket which I think you will also agree upon, is that fewer countries are playing and actually taking part in the actual tournaments. Second, we can have a maximum of 2 games each day whereas we can keep a minimum of 4 games each day.
