Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi (Golden pair)

Record set by: Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi

Sport: Tennis

Unbeaten Since: 1997

About the Record

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, legendary Indian tennis players, had an impressive record of 24 consecutive wins in doubles matches. Their partnership was one of the most successful in the history of Indian tennis, and they achieved numerous victories together, including Grand Slam titles and ATP tour wins. Their exceptional teamwork, skill, and chemistry on the court made them a formidable pair in the world of tennis.

The 1999 Australian Open was the first Grand Slam final for Leander Paes and a third for Mahesh Bhupathi. It was the first men’s doubles Grand Slam final for both players.

At the 1999 French Open, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi beat the Croatian-American pair of Goran Ivanisevic and Jeff Tarango 6-2, 7-5 in the final to become the first all-Indian pair to win a Grand Slam championship.

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi hold the Davis Cup record for most consecutive wins with 24, a run that began in 1997 and extended till 2010.

Balbir Singh Senior (Indian Hockey Legend)

Record set by: Balbir Singh Senior

Sport: Field hockey

Unbeaten Since: 1952

About the Record

Indian hockey had its glory years when the Indian men’s hockey team seemed like unstoppable winners, winning six consecutive Olympics from 1928 to 1956.

While it was ‘The Wizard’ Dhyan Chand who played a starring role in the Indian national hockey team’s first three Olympic golds pre-independence, the star of the other three was none other than Balbir Singh Dosanjh.

He is a three-time Olympic gold medallist, still stands as one of India’s most revered hockey legends, and is probably the only player whose name is uttered in the same way as Dhyan Chand’s in Indian hockey history.

By the time the next Olympics rolled around in 1952, Balbir Singh had become an integral part of the Indian hockey team and was named vice-captain to KD Babu for the Helsinki Olympics. He was also the flag-bearer for the Indian contingent.

The 1952 Olympics was where Balbir Singh was truly recognized as the heart of the Indian hockey team as he scored nine goals, including a hat-trick each in the semi-final and final.

Balbir Singh’s five goals in the 6-1 win in the final against the Netherlands broke a 44-year record for most goals in an Olympic final and it still stands almost seven decades later.

In Melbourne in 1956, Balbir Singh was named captain. He was not as prolific as before — Udham Singh took the top scorer’s honors with 15 goals – but the brave forward soldiered through a fracture in his right hand to help India win the final and secure a sixth Olympic gold.

The centurion Sachin Tendulkar – (Master Blaster of cricket)

Record set by: Sachin Tendulkar

Sport: Cricket

Unbeaten since: 2012

Close to Reach It: Virat Kohli (50 ODI centuries and 80 in Total)

About the Record

Sachin Tendulkar’s journey to scoring 100 international centuries is a testament to his unparalleled talent and dedication to cricket. From his debut as a prodigy teenager in 1989 to his retirement in 2013, Tendulkar’s illustrious career spanned over two decades.

Known for his technique and exquisite strokeplay, Tendulkar’s ability to adapt to different formats and conditions made him a formidable batsman across the globe. His century-scoring spree began with his maiden Test century against England in 1990, followed by his first ODI century against Australia in 1994.

His landmark achievement of scoring 100 international centuries, reached with a century against Bangladesh in an ODI in 2012, solidified his status as a cricketing icon. It was a milestone that seemed almost unattainable and firmly established his legacy as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

Sachin Tendulkar’s journey to 100 international centuries encapsulates the essence of cricketing greatness – a combination of talent, perseverance, and an unwavering passion for the sport. His records may be broken someday, but his legacy as a cricketing icon will endure for generations to come.

But a part of this unbreakable record was broken by another Indian cricketer who idolized the Master Blaster itself. Virat Kohli scored his 50th ODI century which broke the 49 ODI centuries made by Sachin Tendulkar. This was a feat that Sachin Tendulkar himself watched and applauded, which was the best of Virat Kohli’s moments. He has scored a total of 80 centuries till now so he is a contender to achieve the biggest cricket feat.
